How to check stitch counts and repeats in a crochet chart
A chart can look balanced while still containing count errors. The safest review compares the intended count, the marks actually placed and the math implied by every repeat.
Record the expected count
Give each row or round a target from the written pattern. Do not infer it only from the visual spacing.
Compare placed positions
Count the symbols assigned to the active row and flag duplicate positions. Two marks on one snap point should never quietly count as two valid stitches.
Expand repeat math
Multiply the bracketed group and add stitches before or after the repeat. The expanded total should match the expected row count.
Verify the exported legend
Open the final PDF or SVG and confirm that every used mark is named once, remains readable and matches the chart source.
