How to chart crochet in the round

Round charts need more than evenly spaced icons. The reader must see which stitches belong to each round, where increases happen and how a repeating group fills the circumference.

Set the center and round count

Begin with the center ring or first stitch, then add only the rounds required for the current motif. Extra empty rings can make relationships harder to read.

Allocate positions from the stitch count

Use the expected number of stitches to distribute snap positions around each round. This reveals whether an increase plan will fit before the chart is crowded.

Keep symbols radially legible

Place stems and loops so their orientation is consistent with the round. Check the chart at print size, where dense symbols can merge.

Audit the repeat multiplier

Confirm that the repeated group multiplied by its count matches the planned round total, including any stitches outside the bracket.
