How to make a crochet symbol chart on Mac
A useful crochet chart is more than a pretty arrangement of marks. Its geometry, symbol key, repeat logic and counts must agree so another crocheter can follow it without guessing.
1. Choose rows or rounds
Start with the construction of the piece. Use rows for flat panels and rounds for motifs or tubes, then set enough snap positions for the expected stitches.
2. Place one row at a time
Select the active row, choose a symbol and place each stitch at a deliberate position. Keeping one row active prevents edits from drifting into the wrong instruction.
3. Define repeats explicitly
Bracket the repeated stitch group, name it and record its multiplier. A visible repeat is easier to audit than a note that is disconnected from the chart.
4. Run preflight before export
Compare the expected and placed counts, resolve overlaps and confirm every symbol appears in the legend before creating SVG or PDF copies.
